A thoughtful renovation in West Footscray

Blending timeless charm with modern elegance

This project showcases my own home, which I renovated seven years ago, embodying my style of "less is more" with thoughtfully chosen pieces that hold personal significance. In sourcing materials, I prioritised local craftsmanship, commissioning a stunning entertainment unit and a shelving unit made from beautiful American Oak, both of which continue to bring me joy due to their exceptional quality.

Collaboration with a local builder specialising in period homes was essential to preserving the unique character and design elements of our home. While we maintained the period details at the front, we opted for a modern extension at the back, balancing old-world charm with contemporary functionality.

The material palette leans towards muted tones, with a preference for pattern over bold colours. One of my favorite features is the moss green marble tile in the main bathroom, elegantly showcased behind the solid surface bath.

For the dining area, I sourced the table and chairs from a Facebook marketplace listing and selected a tan leather sofa to add warmth. This hero colour allowed for cohesive upholstery on the custom counter stools and harmonised cushion colours throughout the open-plan living space.

Lighting played a crucial role in defining the zones within the expansive area. I incorporated down lights for task illumination while ensuring plenty of options for mood lighting to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Lastly, we fondly remember Archie, our beloved rescue dog, who joined our family at seven years old. He passed away this year at the age of twelve, leaving behind cherished memories.
